The new blue buses in Davao City are already becoming a major sign of change for local commuters. Officially part of the Davao City Interim Bus Service, or DC Bus, these buses were launched to give Dabawenyos a better public transport option while the larger Davao Bus Project is still being prepared.

According to the City Government of Davao, the DC Bus service was created to help provide additional transport during peak hours, especially when commuting options become limited. The buses are currently offered for free rides and operate during busy travel periods, helping workers, students, and daily commuters move around the city with less stress.

Each bus can carry up to 90 passengers, with seating capacity for 46 passengers, including reserved seats for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and pregnant women. The city also prepared 124 bus stops to support safer loading and unloading across the routes.

The new buses are not just about comfort. They also show what Davao City is preparing for in the future: a more organized, safer, and more modern public transport system. The blue buses serve as an interim solution while the bigger Davao Bus Project, formerly known as the High Priority Bus System, continues to move forward.

For locals, the impact is immediate. Free peak-hour rides can help reduce daily transport costs, especially for workers and students. The buses can also ease pressure on jeepneys during rush hours and give commuters a more accessible option, especially those who need low-floor buses and safer boarding areas.

The bigger Davao Bus Project is a much larger plan. The City Government of Davao earlier said the project was approved with a total cost of around ₱73.4 billion, with over ₱52 billion coming through an Asian Development Bank loan. Newer reports refer to the project as a ₱76-billion initiative, with Davao City’s counterpart fund at around ₱1.5 billion.

In the coming months, residents can expect continued use and adjustment of the DC Bus service, including route improvements, bus stop refinements, and better coordination with existing public transport. The full Davao Bus Project is now expected to begin its first phase around the third or fourth quarter of 2027, with wider completion targeted around late 2028 or early 2029, depending on land acquisition and implementation progress.

If completed properly, this project could become one of the biggest public transport changes in Davao City’s history. It can help reduce congestion, improve daily commuting, support local businesses, and give Dabawenyos a cleaner, safer, and more reliable way to move around the city.
